MIC-KEY* Helps Put Her Allergies on Ice

To see 11-year-old skating champion Kendall Hollinger whirling around an ice rink, you’d never know she’d faced a challenge bigger than choosing just the right music for her program. And Kendall wouldn’t have it any other way.

But the truth is, ever since she was born, Kendall has been allergic to food—almost all food. According to her mom, Kim, “Kendall is severely allergic to 95% of food, and she usually develops an allergy to the few foods she can eat, after a short time.” As a result, at age 4½, Kendall had a feeding tube inserted into her stomach.

“It was horrible,” says Kim. “The tube was long and bulky, it greatly inhibited Kendall’s activities, and it was painful for her, as well.” But three months later, a life-changing event for Kendall and her parents, Kim and Tim, occurred: she received her first KIMBERLY-CLARK* MIC-KEY* Low-Profile Feeding Tube.

Said Kim, “The difference the MIC-KEY* made was unbelievable. It’s virtually flush with her skin, so it doesn’t get in her way or keep her from doing all the things an active little girl wants to do.” Within a month after the MIC-KEY* was inserted, this California girl was swimming, going down water slides on her tummy, and most important of all, with the proper nutrition she was getting through her MIC-KEY*, Kendall was getting healthier every day.

When she fell in love with ice skating, there was nothing holding her back from reaching for her dreams. With excellent coaching and encouragement by ice skating luminaries such as Olympic Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen, by age 8, Kendall had won the Ice Skating Institute’s 2004 World Championship.

In 2008, Kendall is skating with the U.S. Figure Skating Association. Are there Olympic plans in her future? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Kendall’s MIC-KEY* will be helping her achieve her goals, whatever they may be.
